The ideal family yacht has at least 4 to 5 cabins so parents and children have separate spaces. Look for yachts with a large swim platform for safe water access, a beach club for shade, and a comprehensive toy garage including jet skis, paddleboards, kayaks, and inflatables. Many superyachts 40m+ now feature dedicated children's menus prepared by onboard chefs, movie nights on the sundeck, and crew trained to supervise water activities.
We recommend 35m to 55m superyachts for families of 6 to 12 guests. This size range offers 4 to 6 cabins, crew of 8 to 12, spacious outdoor areas, and a full toy garage. Yachts in this range typically cost EUR 100,000 to EUR 350,000/week, excellent value when split across a multi-family group. The sweet spot is a 40 to 45m motor yacht with a dedicated beach club and jacuzzi.
The Mediterranean in summer (June to September) is perfect for families: calm seas, shallow anchorages, and cultural ports. Greece's Ionian Islands offer particularly calm waters ideal for young children. The Caribbean in winter (December to April) provides warm weather and safe swimming, the Bahamas and BVI are top family choices with short, easy passages between islands.
All charter yachts meet strict safety standards, but for families with young children, look for yachts with guardrails (rather than wire railings), enclosed sundeck areas, stabilisers for reduced rolling at anchor, and crew experienced with children. Our charter specialists can identify yachts where the crew have specific family charter experience, it makes an enormous difference.
Chartering with grandparents, parents, and children? Choose a yacht with flexible sleeping arrangements (twin cabins that convert, pullman berths) and varied activity options. While the kids use the water toys and the grandparents relax on the sundeck, parents can explore shore excursions. A good onboard chef will accommodate dietary requirements across three generations with ease.
Yachts of 35 to 55m that sleep 10 or more guests, the size range we recommend for families, lowest weekly rate first.
