What is included in the charter price?

Every superyacht charter includes the yacht itself, a professional captain and full crew (chef, stewardesses, engineers, deckhands), comprehensive insurance, and all onboard amenities including water toys, tenders, and entertainment systems. The crew handles every aspect of your voyage from navigation to fine dining.

What is not included in the base charter rate: fuel, food and beverages, port and marina fees, communications, and crew gratuity. These are covered by the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance), typically 25 to 35% of the charter fee, paid upfront and reconciled after the charter. Any unspent APA is refunded.

Pricing by destination

Charter rates vary by destination and season. Here is what to expect across the world's top cruising grounds:

  • Western Mediterranean (French Riviera, Sardinia, Amalfi): Peak season July to August. Premium rates. Expect 20 to 30% above base rates during peak.
  • Eastern Mediterranean (Greece, Croatia, Turkey): Generally 10 to 20% lower than Western Med. Peak July to September.
  • Caribbean (BVI, St Barths, Bahamas): Winter season December to April. Christmas/New Year commands the highest rates globally, book 12 months ahead.
  • Exotic (Maldives, Thailand, Norway): Year-round availability varies. Often 10 to 15% below Mediterranean peak rates. Longer repositioning voyages may affect pricing.

How to reduce your charter cost

  • Book in shoulder season: May to June and September to October in the Med, or April to May in the Caribbean. Rates are 15 to 30% lower.
  • Book early: 6 to 12 months ahead secures the best yachts and often early-bird discounts of 5 to 15%.
  • Consider repositioning cruises: When yachts move between the Med and Caribbean (October/November, April/May), rates can be significantly reduced.
  • Right-size your yacht: A well-chosen 35m superyacht delivers an exceptional experience at a fraction of a 60m vessel.
  • Flexible dates: Being flexible by even a week can open up availability on premium yachts at better rates.

Is superyacht chartering worth it?

A superyacht charter is not just a holiday, it is a private, fully-crewed floating residence that takes you to the world's most beautiful coastlines. Compared to booking multiple five-star hotel suites, private dining, transfers, and activities separately, a superyacht charter often provides superior value while offering complete privacy, flexibility, and a level of service that is impossible to replicate on land.

For families, a 35m superyacht at €120,000/week for 10 guests works out to €1,700 per person per night, including gourmet meals, all activities, water toys, and crew service. That is comparable to a top-tier hotel suite, but with the freedom to wake up in a different destination each morning. See our guide to the best yachts for families.

Superyacht charter cost FAQ

What is the price of a superyacht charter in US dollars?
Across the 1,047 crewed yachts of 24 metres and above in our database, weekly charter prices currently run from $7,030 to $3,400,000, with a median of $69,500 per week. A 30m to 40m superyacht has a median weekly rate of $70,000. Rates exclude APA, taxes and crew gratuity.
How much does it cost to charter a superyacht for a week?
Weekly superyacht charters start from approximately €50,000 for a 30m motor yacht and range to €1,200,000+ for the largest megayachts (80m+). A popular 40 to 50m superyacht with 5 cabins typically costs €100,000 to €250,000 per week including crew and chef.
What is an APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance)?
The APA is an additional fund (typically 25 to 35% of the charter fee) paid before the charter to cover running costs: fuel, food, port fees, bar, and incidentals. Any unspent APA is refunded after the charter.
Is fuel included in the charter price?
No. Fuel is covered by the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). Fuel costs vary significantly depending on yacht size and itinerary, typically €5,000 to €30,000 per week for superyachts.
Are there hidden costs in superyacht chartering?
No. Navélia provides full cost transparency upfront. The charter fee covers the yacht, crew, and insurance. Additional costs (fuel, catering, port fees) are covered by APA and disclosed before booking. Crew gratuity (10 to 20%) is customary but optional.
When is superyacht chartering cheapest?
Shoulder seasons offer the best value. In the Mediterranean: May to June and September to October (20 to 30% below peak). In the Caribbean: April to May and November (before Christmas). Book 6+ months ahead for the best availability.
What's included in a superyacht charter?
The charter fee includes the yacht, professional captain and crew (typically 6 to 20+ crew), standard insurance, and onboard amenities. Food, drinks, fuel, port fees, and water toys are covered by the APA.
How far in advance should I book a superyacht?
For peak season Mediterranean (July to August) or Caribbean Christmas/New Year, book 6 to 12 months ahead. Shoulder seasons offer more flexibility with 2 to 4 months notice. Last-minute deals are occasionally available.
Do I need to tip the crew?
Tipping is customary but not mandatory. The industry standard is 10 to 20% of the base charter fee, shared among the crew. For exceptional service, 20% is appreciated.
