What is included in the charter price?

Every superyacht charter includes the yacht itself, a professional captain and full crew (chef, stewardesses, engineers, deckhands), comprehensive insurance, and all onboard amenities including water toys, tenders, and entertainment systems. The crew handles every aspect of your voyage from navigation to fine dining.

What is not included in the base charter rate: fuel, food and beverages, port and marina fees, communications, and crew gratuity. These are covered by the APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance), typically 25 to 35% of the charter fee, paid upfront and reconciled after the charter. Any unspent APA is refunded.

How does the destination change the price?

Charter rates vary by destination and season. Here is what to expect across the world's top cruising grounds:

  • Western Mediterranean (French Riviera, Sardinia, Amalfi): Peak season July to August. Premium rates. Expect 20 to 30% above base rates during peak.
  • Eastern Mediterranean (Greece, Croatia, Turkey): Generally 10 to 20% lower than Western Med. Peak July to September.
  • Caribbean (BVI, St Barths, Bahamas): Winter season December to April. Christmas/New Year commands the highest rates globally, book 12 months ahead.
  • Exotic (Maldives, Thailand, Norway): Year-round availability varies. Often 10 to 15% below Mediterranean peak rates. Longer repositioning voyages may affect pricing.

How can you reduce your charter cost?

  • Book in shoulder season: May to June and September to October in the Med, or April to May in the Caribbean. Rates are 15 to 30% lower.
  • Book early: 6 to 12 months ahead secures the best yachts and often early-bird discounts of 5 to 15%.
  • Consider repositioning cruises: When yachts move between the Med and Caribbean (October/November, April/May), rates can be significantly reduced.
  • Right-size your yacht: A well-chosen 35m superyacht delivers an exceptional experience at a fraction of a 60m vessel.
  • Flexible dates: Being flexible by even a week can open up availability on premium yachts at better rates.

Is superyacht chartering worth it?

A superyacht charter is not just a holiday, it is a private, fully-crewed floating residence that takes you to the world's most beautiful coastlines. Compared to booking multiple five-star hotel suites, private dining, transfers, and activities separately, a superyacht charter often provides superior value while offering complete privacy, flexibility, and a level of service that is impossible to replicate on land.

For families, a 35m superyacht at EUR 120,000/week for 10 guests works out to EUR 1,700 per person per night, including gourmet meals, all activities, water toys, and crew service. That is comparable to a top-tier hotel suite, but with the freedom to wake up in a different destination each morning. See our guide to the best yachts for families.
